In terms of build, Samsung Galaxy S9 has a similar build as its predecessor- the Galaxy S8 - and sports glass front and back with an aluminium frame. True to Samsung style, the front is all-display with slim bezels, adding to the immersive viewing experience of the smartphone. The front-facing camera, an iris scanner, earpiece, sensors are located in the thin bezel at the top. There's a dedicated fingerprint scanner at the back of the handset. The Galaxy S9 sports a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity display and the smartphone yet again offer 18.5:9 aspect ratio.
The Infinity Display curves around the edges to offer an immersive viewing experience. There's Always-on display, 3D touch for the virtual home button, and Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. It is powered by octa-core processor and comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. The handset packs 3000mAh battery and supports fast charging as well as wireless charging. There's no official word on the chipset but the smartphone is expected to run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor in the US while other markets including India is likely to get an Exynos-powered smartphone.
The Galaxy S9 has launched with new AR Emoji feature that lets users create an emoji after clicking a selfie. The AR Emoji feature uses a data-based machine learning algorithm, which analyses a 2D image of the user and maps out more than 100 facial features to create a 3D model that reflects and imitates expressions, like winks and nods, for true personalisation. AR Emoji shares users’ real-life emotions not only in video but also with a range of stickers and uses a standard AGIF file format so users can share their emojis across most third-party messaging platforms.
Samsung Galaxy S9 also comes with Bixby, which is the company's intelligence platform. It uses augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide contextual information about a user’s surroundings. With real-time object detection and recognition, Bixby instantly generates information directly on top of the image that the camera is pointing at.
The height and width of the handset have been adjusted for easier use with just one hand. Samsung has already kicked off India pre-orders of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones within hours of announcing the smartphone at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. The dedicated Samsung India Shop has started taking pre-orders online for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones. Interested consumers can head to this page and pre-order their unit by paying an advance amount of Rs. 2,000.
