All Nokia phones will be upgraded to Android P, confirms HMD Global

All Nokia phones will be upgraded to Android P, confirms HMD Global

hile announcing the refreshed versions of last year's Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 at an event in Moscow last night, HMD Global's marketing manager Neil Broadley also revealed an important piece of information for all the Nokia phone users out there. He said that all the Nokia smartphones launched till date will be upgraded to the latest version of Android, the Android P, which is currently available in beta to Pixel users and select phones from other brands like the OnePlus 6 and also the Nokia 7 Plus. The stable build of the Android P will be releasing in the next few months, and that's exactly when the Nokia phones will eventually start getting Android P's sweetness. The roll out may happen in a phased manner, one after the other.
This means, all Nokia phones starting from low-end Nokia 1 to the new Nokia 8 and also the Sirocco edition will get Android P update. The list definitely includes the newly launched Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1as well. However, the roll out timeline hasn't been confirmed by HMD Global yet. We can expect all the Nokia phones to get the new software update by the end of this year or maybe the beginning of the next, similar to how HMD Global did while rolling to the Oreo update. All Nokia phones are now upgraded to Android Oreo. Soon after Google released the second Developers preview of Android P last month HMD Global announced Android P beta program availability for the Nokia 7 Plus.
Here are all the Nokia phones to get Android P update:
Nokia 1
Nokia 2
Nokia 2.1
Nokia 3
Nokia 3.1
Nokia 5
Nokia 5.1
Nokia 6
Nokia 6.1
Nokia 7 Plus
Nokia 8
Nokia 8 Sirocco
Additionally, HMD Global has confirmed that they will upgrade the Nokia 2 to Oreo in June which currently runs on Android Nougat. As already mentioned, the phone will be later upgraded to Android P software.
Broadley has also confirmed that all the Nokia phones running Android One including the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 5.1, and Nokia 3.1 will be upgraded to the latest software version for two consecutive years as demanded by Google for flagship updates. This means the newly launched Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 phones will get timely Android security updates alongside a guarantee of Android P and Q in the future.
The company has a good news for Nokia 8 users as well. HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas at last night's event announced to bring Nokia Pro Camera mode to the Nokia 8 by the end of this week, which is by June 1. Juho also mentioned that the rollout will happen gradually which means that Nokia 8 users may not get the Nokia Camera Pro mode instantly. The new camera mode will come to Nokia 8 via a software update. Ensure to backup all your data before installing the update, and connect the device to Wi-Fi network. To check if the software update is available, Nokia 8 users can head to the Setting tab of the phone.
