Airtel revamps Rs 149 and Rs 399 plans, reduces data benefits to 1GB and 1.4GB respectively
Ever since Jio has been launched in 2015, telecom operators like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, BSNL and others have been pulling up their socks to compete with the new entrant. Bharti Airtel has been one of the toughest competitors of Jio. Airtel has introduced several prepaid and postpaid plans to offer heavy data benefits, unlimited voice calls and more services to the customers to take on Reliance Jio. But now, looks like there's something wrong as Airtel reduces the data benefits of two of its best-selling prepaid plans -- Rs 149 and Rs 399 by 1GB. The reason behind this step is still unknown.
The report of data reduction comes from TelecomTalk. To recollect, Airtel recently revamped its Rs 149 and Rs 399 plans to offer more data to the customers. After the revision, Airtel was offering 2GB data per day under its Rs 149 for a period of 28 days. While, under the Rs 399 plan, Airtel was offering 2.4GB of 4G data for a validity period of 84 days. Both the plans are coupled with unlimited voice calls and 100 SMs per day benefits. The revision happened around a week ago.
Now, in just a week of the revision of the plans, Airtel has decided to reduce the data benefits of these two plans and go back to its old offerings. This means, under Rs 149 plan, Airtel is now offering 1GB of 4G data per day for 28 days, while under Rs 399 it is offering 1.4GB of data per day for 84 days. Both the plans still come coupled with unlimited voice calls and 100 SMs per day benefits. According to report, for some subscribers Airtel has reduced the validity period of Rs 399 plan to 70 days, while others continue to have a validity of 84 days.
Currently, there's no word on why Airtel has reduced the data benefits.
Interestingly, Jio also has Rs 149 and Rs 399 plans and both are one of its best selling packs.
In comparison to Airtel, Jio is currently 1.5GB data per day under its Rs 149 and Rs 399 plans respectively. This data offering is a part of the Jio Double Dhamaka offer that is ending this today. After the double Dhamaka offer ends, Jio will be offering 1GB of 4G data per day under its 149 and Rs 399 plans for a validity period of 28 and 84 days. Both the Jio plans come coupled with unlimited voice calling benefits, 100 SMSes per day and access to all Jio apps like Jio Cinema, Jio Music, My Jio App and more.
